Adkins Tree and Stump
An Adkins climber roped in at the top of a bare spar, working it down over a row of back yards.

Columbus · Hilliard · Dublin · Grove City

We take the tree and the stump

Removals, trimming, grinding and storm work for properties where the tree is too close to something expensive. Climbed and rigged when dropping it is not an option — and the ground raked out before we leave.

The whole job, start to finish

One leaning maple over a garage, or a fence line nobody has touched in forty years. Either way the property goes back in better shape than we found it.

A front lawn with a circle of fresh soil where the tree and its stump used to be.
01 / Removal

Tree removal

Some trees can be dropped whole. Most of the ones we get called about cannot — they are over a garage, beside a pool, tangled in a service drop. Those get climbed and taken apart a section at a time, every piece lowered on a rope rather than let go.

A climber tied in high on a maple, working the canopy back with cut limbs stacked beside him.
02 / Canopy

Trimming & canopy work

Closer to surgery than to a haircut. Deadwood and crossing limbs out, the canopy lifted off your roof and your driveway, and every cut made at the collar so the wound seals over instead of rotting back into the trunk.

A freshly cut stump more than three feet across, sawdust and leaves around it.
03 / Stump

Stump grinding

Taken out well below grade, not shaved off level, so you can sod it, plant it or run a mower straight over the top. The grindings go with us or stay to backfill the hole — your call, and it is half the reason the company has the name it does.

A storm-damaged tree beside a house with the chipper already pulled onto the lawn.
04 / Emergency

Storm damage

A trunk across the drive, a limb through the porch roof, a leader hung up in the wires. We answer at any hour, and we will tell you straight whether it needs doing tonight or whether it is safe where it is until morning.

Cut logs stacked in a clearing with brush chipped and a machine working behind them.
05 / Clearing

Lot & fence line clearing

Fence rows swallowed by honeysuckle, back acres nobody has walked in a decade, building plots that have to be bare ground before anything else can start. We take it out and grind down what is left standing.

The Adkins truck and chipper loaded up on a driveway at the end of a job.
06 / Cleanup

Hauling & cleanup

Part of the quote, never a line item that turns up afterwards. Logs loaded out, brush through the chipper, ruts raked flat and the driveway blown off before the truck pulls away.

A stripped tree standing against a heavy sky with a groundsman clearing beneath it.

When it comes down at midnight

Wind takes a leader off and puts it through the porch roof, or drops the whole trunk across the drive with your car behind it. Call. We will tell you honestly whether it is an emergency or whether it will keep until daylight — plenty of them will, and we would rather say so than sell you a midnight job.

Four steps, one price, no surprises

You know the number before anybody starts a saw, and the stump is quoted at the same time as the tree — not after it, when you have no leverage left.

  1. 01

Tell us what you are looking at

Which tree, how close to what, and whether it is still standing. Any hour.

  2. 02

    We walk the property

Free, in person. A photo will not show us the lean, the rot pocket or the way in.

  3. 03

    The tree comes down

Climbed and rigged wherever a drop is not safe. Fully insured, every job.

  4. 04

    The stump goes with it

Ground out below grade the same visit, and the hole backfilled. No second phone call.

Before we turned up. After we left.

Every photograph on this page is a job we did. Drag either handle across to see the before and the after.

After: the same view with the pines gone, open sky, and the ground cleared and levelled.
Before: a row of mature pine trees alongside a ball field, with the bucket truck set up at their base.
Before After
A row of mature pines cleared along the ball diamond, and the ground taken back to level.
After: the same oak thinned and lifted, the canopy open and well clear of the roofline.
Before: a large live oak with a dense, low canopy crowding the house behind it.
Before After
A live oak thinned and lifted rather than removed — deadwood out, the canopy opened up and off the roof.

The tree is the easy part

Anyone with a saw can put a tree on the ground. Getting it down over a fence, a flowerbed and a septic lid without leaving a mark on any of them is the part you are actually paying for.

  • Covered before the first cut

Fully insured, and we bring proof to the estimate. Ask every company you call — the ones who change the subject are the reason people end up claiming on their own policy.

  • The stump is not an afterthought

It is in the name. Most outfits take the tree and leave you ringing round for a grinder. We quote both at once and do both the same visit.

  • You get the same people

Owner-run. Whoever walks the property and gives you the number is on site the day the work happens.

  • We answer the phone

Including at two in the morning with a tree across your driveway, and including when the honest answer is that it can wait until daylight.

Columbus & central Ohio

Most work sits inside about a thirty-minute drive of Columbus. Bigger removals and clearing jobs are worth going further for, so if your town is not on the list it is still worth the call.

Fair questions

All of this is what we would tell you standing in your driveway.

What does it cost to take a tree down?

Far less to do with the tree than with what is underneath it. The same maple is one price in an open field and three times that leaning over a garage and a service drop. That is why we look in person, and why looking is free.

Is the stump included?

Only if you want it to be, and you get the number either way at the estimate. It is in the name of the company because most outfits treat it as somebody else's problem: the tree goes, the stump stays, and you are left ringing round for a grinder.

Are you insured?

Fully insured, and we will bring proof to the estimate. Ask every tree company you call for it. The ones who change the subject are the reason homeowners end up claiming on their own policy for a limb through their own roof.

How close to the house can you work?

As close as it needs to be. Anything that cannot be dropped safely gets climbed and taken down in pieces, each one lowered on a rope rather than allowed to fall. That is a normal day here, not a special case.

What happens to the wood and the mess?

It leaves with us unless you want it. Logs cut to firewood length and stacked, chips spread on your beds, or the whole lot hauled off. Say which at the estimate and it is priced in either way.

Do you answer at night?

Yes, and we will tell you honestly whether what you are looking at is an emergency or whether it will keep until morning. Plenty of storm calls are safe to leave overnight, and we would rather say so than sell you a midnight job.

What are we looking at?

A name and a phone number is enough to get started. Anything you can add — roughly how tall, how close to the house, whether it is still standing — gets you a useful answer faster.
